OUR STORY
After spending 25 years in the fashion industry as a design executive for companies including Disney, Quiksilver and Gymboree, making pies might seem like an unlikely transition for Kate Green, but sometimes life serves up the unexpected.
Kate and her husband Dennis own Karl the Store in Sausalito an eclectic shop featuring furniture, home furnishings, clothing and vintage finds. There is a vintage sign in the window of the shop: “Ruth’s Homemade Pies”. Customers were disappointed to discover, when they came in to purchase a pie, that Karl the Store didn’t actually sell pies. But that created an idea…
Growing up in Michigan in a family where making pies was a right of passage, Kate thought why not make pies for Karl. With a baker’s license and recipes handed down from her mother and grandmother, Kate began making pies for the store. At first it was just a few pies on Sundays, a way to connect with customers and friends, bringing a bit a joy to an otherwise chaotic world. Soon word got out that you could find delicious, not too sweet, fresh and beautifully designed homemade pies at Karl the Store and business grew.
In 2020, Kate founded Slice of Sausalito based on the following principles:
Community - offering fresh baked homemade pies to our neighbors while buying ingredients from local businesses.
Creativity - our pies are not only delicious but beautiful with signature top crust cut out designs and details.
Quality - using only fresh, high quality ingredients - organic whenever possible.
Joy - bringing a smile and a moment of happiness with every pie.
Our 5” pies are available at Karl the Store, 1201 Bridgeway in Sausalito Tuesday through Sunday 11am-5pm while supplies last - the type of pies available at the store vary each day.
Custom orders are welcome and recommended to insure you get the pie you want the day you would like it. Placing an order at least two days in advance is greatly appreciated!
